KCSF Urges Kano Govt to Establish Commission for People with Disabilities
The Kano Civil Society Forum (KCSF) has intensified its advocacy for the establishment of a dedicated disability commission in Kano State to address the challenges faced by persons with disabilities (PWDs).
Mohammed Bello, President of KCSF, made the call while speaking as a special guest at the Persons with Disability Summit (PWD Summit) held at the American Corner, State Library, Kano. The summit, organized by the Network for Youth Enlightenment and Development (N-YED), centered on the theme “Special Regards for Persons with Disabilities” (SR-PWDs).
In his remarks, Bello applauded the Kano State Government for being among the first in the country to domesticate the Disability Rights Act, describing it as a significant step toward safeguarding the rights of PWDs. However, he expressed concerns about delays in establishing a state-level disability commission similar to the one at the national level.
“The establishment of a state disability commission is essential to provide enhanced support and services for PWDs, ensuring their inclusion and empowerment,” Bello said. He further pledged KCSF’s commitment to intensifying advocacy efforts toward making this a reality.
Bello also urged disability groups in Kano to strengthen coordination and collaboration, emphasizing that unity among stakeholders is vital to achieving common goals for the PWD community.
The summit highlighted the pressing need for action and collaboration to address the rights and needs of persons with disabilities, reinforcing the call for a dedicated state disability commission.
