Tension in Plateau as Armed Men Attack Fulani Settlement, Kill Cows, Abduct Children
Suspected gunmen attacked a herders’ settlement in Wumat, a community in the Tarangol District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, in the early hours of Sunday.
The attackers reportedly killed five cows and abducted two young boys during the raid.
The victims, identified as Shafiu Nuhu and Abba Nuhu, are sons of a herder named Nuhu Ibrahim.
According to the District’s Ardo (Fulani leader), the armed assailants stormed the makeshift cattle tent, slaughtered livestock, and took the children before fleeing the scene.
Elders from the Fulani community have voiced deep concern over the rising violence directed at their people, calling for urgent action to secure the release of the abducted boys and to prevent further escalation of tensions in the area
Plateau State continues to grapple with widespread violence, often driven by longstanding tensions between farmers and herders.
Herders in the region frequently claim that attacks on their communities are underreported, leading to retaliatory violence in the absence of swift and impartial responses.
Security personnel have since visited the scene and launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
