    The Emir of Zuru, His Royal Highness, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammad Sani Sami has passed on. A statement issued by the Kebbi State Government stated that Maj.-Gen. Sami died on Saturday night at the age of 81 in a London hospital after a brief illness.

    The late Emir was a distinguished military officer and traditional ruler who served in various capacities, including Commander of the Brigade of Guards under the Murtala Mohammed Administration and Military Governor of Bauchi State from January 1984 to August 1985 under the Maj. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari Administration. Born on October 24, 1943, in Zuru, Northern Nigeria, Maj.-Gen. Sami joined the Nigerian Army on December 10, 1962, and received his training at the prestigious Mons Officer Cadet School in Aldershot, United Kingdom, where he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on July 25, 1963.

    Throughout his illustrious career, Maj.-Gen. Sami demonstrated exceptional leadership, simplicity, and devotion to the traditions and cultural values of the Zuru Emirate. As the Emir of Zuru, he played a pivotal role in preserving the cultural heritage of the emirate and was a strong advocate for the development of tourism in Kebbi State. He ascended to the throne as the 11th Emir of Zuru in 1995.

    As Military Governor of Bauchi State, Maj.-Gen. Sami achieved several notable milestones, including upgrading medical facilities and initiating a major agricultural development program called “Back to Land.” He also promoted sports development in the state, hosting the World Handball Championship during his tenure.

    The late Emir’s notable contributions include championing development initiatives, promoting peace and stability, and preserving cultural heritage. He was a strong advocate for the preservation of cultural heritage and promoted the Uhola Cultural Festival, which brought together people from all walks of life to celebrate the rich cultural traditions of the Zuru Emirate.

    The Kebbi State Government extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and subjects of the late Emir. The government commends his dedication to the people of Zuru and his commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of the emirate. Public Pulse.ng learned that burial arrangements will be communicated in due course by the Zuru Emirate Council.

    May Almighty Allah grant the late Emir’s family, friends, and the entire people of Kebbi State the fortitude to bear the loss. May the Almighty Allah admit him to Jannatul Firdaus.
