CDS, COAS celebrate frontline troops with Christmas lunch in Plateau
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Olufemi Oluyede, alongside the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, hosted a special Christmas luncheon for frontline troops in Plateau State in recognition of their dedication and sacrifices in safeguarding lives and maintaining peace within the Joint Operations Area.
The event which was organised by the 3rd Armoured Division of th force in collaboration with the Joint Task Force, Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP). brought together officers, soldiers, their families and invited guests in an atmosphere marked by unity, warmth and festive cheer.
Activities at the event included cultural dance performances showcasing Nigeria’s rich diversity, light-hearted riddles and jokes, as well as other morale-boosting engagements aimed at easing the pressures of frontline duties during the yuletide season.
In his goodwill message, the CDS extended greetings to the troops, expressing pleasure at celebrating the festive season with personnel of 3 Division and JTF OPEP. He described Christmas as a season symbolising love, sacrifice, hope and renewal, and an opportunity to reflect on shared humanity, collective responsibility and unwavering commitment to national peace, unity and progress.
General Oluyede noted that while many Nigerians mark the season with their families, frontline troops remain steadfast in fulfilling their oath to God and country. He described them as “the wall that never breaks and the hope that can never be shattered,” commending their courage, professionalism and selfless service.
The CDS praised the achievements of Operation ENDURING PEACE, noting that the commitment of the troops has significantly contributed to restoring public confidence and stabilising Plateau State and neighbouring parts of Kaduna, Nasarawa and Benue States. He added that the nation owes the personnel immense gratitude for their sacrifices.
The event further reinforced the bond between military leadership and troops at the frontlines, underscoring the Armed Forces’ resolve to prioritise welfare and morale while sustaining operational effectiveness.(Daily Sun)
