Abeokuta NHIA Building, FG Gives Contractor One Month Ultimatum
In response to a recent Video released on Social media about the state of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) office in Abeokuta, Ogun State, the Honourable Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Kunle Salako on Thursday February 12, 2026 paid an unscheduled on-the-spot assessment visit to the abandoned building in Abeokuta.
During the inspection, the Honourable Minister evaluated the current state of the facility, expressing concern over its prolonged abandonment and the implications for effective health insurance service delivery in the state.
According to a statement issued by Ado Bako, the Ministry’s Assistant Director, Information and Public Relations, he emphasised the Federal Government’s commitment to revitalising critical health infrastructure in line with ongoing reforms in the health sector.
It was established that the facility has not been formally handed over to the management by the Contractor and Honourable Minister gave the Contractor, one month from February 12, 2026 to fix all the necessary facilities that will make the office functional for the NHIA staff to move in fully.
Dr Salako reiterated that no public health asset should be left to waste, especially at a time when efforts are being intensified to expand access to affordable healthcare for Nigerians.
He assured stakeholders that necessary steps would be taken to address the situation and ensure that the facility is put to productive use in the overall interest of the people of Ogun State within the timeline given.
