KASA Partnering Key Ministries to Align Advertising Activities with Kano’s Development Plan, Says DG
The Kano State Signage and Advertisement Agency (KASA) has strengthened its collaboration with the State Ministries of Environment and Works and Housing to ensure that advertising activities across Kano State support the government’s development agenda, environmental sustainability objectives, and public safety standards.
The Director-General of KASA, Comrade Kabir Dakata, disclosed this on Wednesday during an interactive session with the members of the Association of Kano Online Journalists (ASKOJ) in Kano.
Dakata explained that since assuming office, the agency has prioritized strategic engagement with key stakeholders, particularly the Ministries of Environment and Works and Housing, to establish a coordinated framework that regulates outdoor advertising while contributing to the state’s urban development plans.
According to him, the partnership is aimed at ensuring that all advertising structures, including billboards and signboards, comply with approved standards, are erected in designated locations, and do not undermine environmental regulations or public infrastructure.
“Our collaboration with the relevant ministries is designed to ensure that advertising activities complement Kano State’s development agenda. We are committed to creating an enabling environment for businesses to promote their products and services while safeguarding the environment and public safety,” Dakata stated.
The KASA boss noted that the agency remains the statutory body responsible for regulating outdoor advertising in the state and ensuring strict compliance with existing laws governing signage and advertisement structures.
As part of its enforcement efforts, Dakata revealed that KASA has removed no fewer than 76 illegal signboards erected in various parts of the state. He explained that the exercise followed extensive monitoring operations and was carried out after obtaining the necessary court orders.
He expressed concern over the increasing number of substandard billboards and improperly sited advertising structures erected by some individuals and political actors, warning that such installations pose serious risks to lives, property, and critical public assets.
To address the challenge, he said KASA’s technical personnel and regulatory experts continuously inspect advertising structures to ensure that only approved materials and designs are used.
“We take precautionary measures to ensure that billboards are erected in appropriate locations and constructed with standard materials. This is necessary to prevent accidents that may occur when poorly constructed structures collapse, especially during adverse weather conditions,” he said.
Dakata further disclosed that the agency’s enforcement activities have helped block significant revenue leakages in the advertising sector, thereby improving the state’s internally generated revenue.
He noted that the establishment of KASA by the Kano State Government has restored order, transparency, and accountability in the management of outdoor advertising, adding that revenue collection is now conducted through the Central Billing System (CBS).
According to him, arrangements are underway to brief Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and the general public on the revenue generated by the agency since the commencement of its operations.
The Director-General called on advertisers, businesses, political organizations, and other stakeholders to collaborate with KASA by adhering to established regulations, stressing that collective compliance is essential for sustainable development, environmental protection, and the continued growth of Kano State.
