50-year-old man arrested for defiling Bauchi nine-year-old hawker
The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly assaulting a nine-year-old girl in the Bulkachuwa community of Katagum Local Government Area.
A statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Nafiu Habib, on Sunday disclosed that the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Bulkachuwa Divisional Police Headquarters following a complaint lodged by the victim’s father.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 5pm on June 14, 2026, when the suspect allegedly lured the child, who was hawking soya bean cakes, to an uncompleted building under the guise of buying from her before assaulting her.
Habib said, “According to a report received at the Bulkachuwa Divisional Police Headquarters on June 15, 2026, at about 5 p.m., the complainant, a resident of Bulkachuwa, reported that on June 14, 2026, at about 5 p.m., one Muhammadu Audu of the same address lured his nine-year-old daughter while she was hawking soya bean cakes.
“Subsequently, the suspect allegedly took the minor to an uncompleted building with the pretext of buying from her, and had unlawful sexual intercourse with her.
“As a result, the victim sustained injuries to her private parts.”
The police spokesperson added that the suspect confessed during interrogation to committing the offence on more than one occasion and admitted threatening to kill the victim with a knife if she disclosed the incidents to her parents.
He noted that the survivor was immediately taken to the Primary Health Care Centre in Bulkachuwa for medical examination and treatment, while the suspect remains in police custody.
Habib further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, had ordered a thorough investigation into the case.
“The Commissioner of Police condemned the act in strong terms and reiterated the command’s zero tolerance for sexual violence and crimes against children.“The command further assures the public that the case will be diligently prosecuted and remains committed to protecting women and children across the state,” he added(Punch)
