WHEN KINDNESS BECAME A LEGACY: ADIEU TO OGA ADEBISI AGBONHIN

Some people pass through life and are remembered for the positions they occupied. Others are remembered for the wealth they accumulated or the honours they received. But there are a rare few whose memories endure because of the lives they touched, the kindness they showed and the humanity they radiated. Oga Bisi belonged to this rare category.
The news of his death has therefore left a painful void in the hearts of his family, friends, former colleagues and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Fondly called “ASHIPA” by his colleagues, he was a former Director of Information at the Federal Ministry of Information and a brilliant, hardworking and dependable Information Officer whose professional excellence was matched by his uncommon humility and kindness.
His departure is painful not merely because a respected public servant has passed on, but because the world has lost a man whose life was a beautiful expression of love, simplicity and goodwill.
Oga Bisi was an epitome of love, he was kind, friendly, simple and remarkably accessible. Despite attaining a senior position in the public service, he never allowed his office or status to create an artificial distance between him and others. He related freely with people and treated everyone with respect and dignity.
For his colleagues and junior colleagues, he was not simply a superior officer. He was a friend, a dependable senior colleague and, in many instances, a source of encouragement and support.
One of the qualities that endeared him to many was his remarkable ability to accommodate people. He hardly took offence at anyone. Even when confronted with situations that could have provoked anger or resentment, he often demonstrated patience, understanding and maturity.
In the workplace, where differences of opinion and occasional disagreements are inevitable, Oga Bisi was a calming presence. He understood the imperfections of human beings and was not quick to condemn. His large heart and forgiving nature made it easy for people to relate with him.
Professionally, Oga Adebisi Agbonhin was a man of substance. As an Information Officer, he was brilliant, hardworking and dedicated. He understood the importance of information management and public communication and approached his duties with seriousness and commitment. He was dependable, and those who worked with him knew they could rely on his competence and sense of responsibility.
He was also a leader of high repute. His leadership was not built on fear or intimidation. Rather, it was anchored on respect, understanding and example. He led with humility and remained accessible to those around him. His leadership style earned him the respect of his colleagues and the affection of those who served under him. This was why his death has been so deeply felt.
For his immediate family, his departure is an immeasurable loss. The family has lost a beloved husband, father, brother and pillar of support.
For his former colleagues, the loss is equally profound. They have lost a senior colleague who was hardworking, brilliant and dependable; a friend who was kind and accommodating; and a leader whose humanity was as remarkable as his professional achievements.
Many will miss his voice. Many will miss his friendliness. Many will miss his simplicity. Many will miss the warmth of his presence. While many will continue to remember the man who never allowed position to change his humanity.
Death has taken Bisi away from our physical presence, but it cannot take away the memories of his good deeds. The lives he touched, the people he encouraged and the relationships he built will continue to testify to the quality of the man he was. Indeed, some legacies are not written in monuments. They are written in the hearts of people.
The legacy of Oga Bisi is written in the hearts of those who knew him. He was a good man. He was a dependable colleague. He was a brilliant Information Officer. He was a leader of high repute. Above all, he was a man who loved people and was deeply loved in return.
As we mourn his death, we also celebrate his life, a life of service, kindness, humility and goodwill.
Adieu, Oga Bisi.
Adieu to a rare gem.
Adieu to a man whose kindness became his legacy.
Adieu to a leader whose simplicity made him loved by all.
Adieu to a dependable colleague and a true gentleman.
Your departure has created a vacuum that will be difficult to fill. But your memories will remain evergreen, and your good name will continue to live in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.
May the Almighty God grant your family, friends and former colleagues the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss.
Rest in peace, Oga Bisi, until the resurrection morning, when death shall have no dominion over those who sleep in the Lord.
