TCN: FIVE TRANSMISSION TOWERS COLLAPSE ALONG IKOT ABASI – EKET 132KV LINE DUE TO VANDALISM

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, (TCN), announces the collapse of five transmission towers along the Ikot Abasi – Eket 132kV Double Circuit Transmission Line as a result of severe acts of vandalism.

The extensive damage was discovered on Saturday, 9 August 2026, during a routine joint line patrol conducted by TCN linesmen.

Preliminary assessment indicates that critical structural bracing members were deliberately removed fron Towers T9, T10, T11, T12, T13, and T15. This resulted in the collapse of five of the affected towers.

Further inspection revealed that structural members from seven additional towers along the same transmission corridor were also removed and carted away. These towers are now structurally compromised and pose a risk of further collapse if not urgently addressed.

To mitigate the impact on electricity supply to consumers in the area, the network has been reconfigured to prioritize supply from Ibom Power.

TCN Management has mobilized an urgent intervention team to commence immediate reconstruction of the affected sections of the line.

Security agencies have also been notified to aid investigations and to intensify surveillance along the line route to prevent further acts of vandalism.

TCN condemns this act of sabotage in strong terms and reiterates its commitment to working with stakeholders to maintain a robust and reliable national grid.

The Company appealed to host communities, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to support TCN by providing useful information that will help in apprehending the perpetrators and safeguarding critical power infrastructure.
