FCT WAEC STATE COMMITTEE CHAIR CALLS FOR STAKEHOLDER COLLABORATION TO ENSURE CREDIBLE EXAMS

The Director of the FCT Education Resource Centre (ERC) and Chairperson of the FCT West African Examinations Council (WAEC) State Committee, Dr. Neemat Daud Abdulrahim, has called for stronger collaboration among education stakeholders to ensure credible public examinations in the Territory.

Dr. Abdulrahim made the call while delivering her opening remarks at the 39th Annual WAEC FCT State Committee Meeting held in Abuja.

She said the credibility of public examinations remains fundamental to maintaining academic standards, ensuring fairness and sustaining public confidence in the education system.

Describing the meeting as an important platform for reviewing the 2026 examinations, Dr. Abdulrahim said it provides an opportunity to assess operational challenges, share experiences and develop practical strategies to improve subsequent examinations across the six Area Councils.

She disclosed that issues raised at the previous meeting had been addressed, while relevant recommendations had been forwarded to the WAEC National Examinations Council for consideration.

The Chairperson described the Education Resource Centre as the hub of educational examinations in the FCT, noting that the Centre has continued to fulfil its mandate through stakeholder engagement, setting of examination questions, intensive monitoring of examinations and sensitisation of school administrators and teachers on professional ethics and compliance with examination regulations.

She stressed that ensuring credible examinations is a shared responsibility that requires the commitment of WAEC, school administrators, teachers, examination officials, parents and other relevant stakeholders.

In his remarks, the President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), FCT Chapter, Dr. Jiya Umar Mohammed, reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to discouraging all forms of examination malpractice.

He said ANCOPSS has consistently promoted examination integrity through the selection of teachers of proven integrity as supervisors and restated the FCT’s zero-tolerance stance towards malpractice.

Dr. Mohammed called on parents and guardians to cooperate with schools and refrain from seeking illegal means of helping their children pass examinations.

Also speaking, the WAEC Zonal Coordinator, FCT, Mr. Zakariyau Abdullahi, said the primary responsibility for preparing candidates rests with schools.

He urged schools to ensure effective coverage of the syllabus, create conducive learning environments and take advantage of WAEC’s e-learning portal to improve candidates’ performance.

Mr. Abdullahi cautioned school authorities, principals, teachers and other stakeholders against aiding or abetting examination malpractice, describing it as a serious offence that WAEC would not treat lightly.

He commended the FCT Education Resource Centre for its commitment to efficient educational service delivery.

The meeting featured deliberations on examination administration and measures to address identified challenges and improve future examinations across the FCT.
