Gunmen Kill NIS Officer, Injure One in Niger; Service Vows Justice
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has vowed to ensure justice after gunmen attacked its personnel on routine patrol in Niger State, killing one officer and injuring another.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, at about 11:30 a.m. along the Tunga Taya-Woro axis of the state. The officers were attached to the Wawa Control Post.
The Service Public Relations Officer, DCI Akinsola Akinlabi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, October 15.
According to the statement, Assistant Superintendent of Immigration, I.U. Babangida, was killed in the attack, while Inspector A.K. Musa sustained serious injuries but managed to escape.
Akinlabi said the injured officer is currently receiving medical attention, while the deceased has been buried in accordance with Islamic rites.
He described Babangida’s death as a painful loss, paying tribute to his sacrifice and commitment to duty.
The Service commiserated with the family, colleagues and loved ones of the deceased officer and wished the injured personnel quick recovery, assuring both families of its support.
Akinlabi added that the Service is working with the Niger State Government and other security agencies to track down the attackers and ensure they are brought to justice.
He stressed that the incident will not deter the NIS from carrying out its mandate of safeguarding the nation’s borders.
