Oborevwori Declares Open 45th Civil Service Commissions Council in Asaba

Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared open the 45th National Council of Civil Service Commissions of the Federation in Asaba.

The Governor, represented by his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, described the theme of the Council — “Towards a Future-Ready Civil Service: The Role of Institutional Re-engineering, Reputation Management and Culture Change in the Civil Service Commissions in Nigeria” — as timely and important.

He said the Civil Service remains the backbone of government, translating policies into action and sustaining public service delivery. Its effectiveness, he added, depends on strong institutions, competent personnel, and a culture of professionalism, integrity and accountability.

Oborevwori stressed that as technology, especially Artificial Intelligence, reshapes governance, the Service must modernise, build relevant skills and adopt innovative approaches.

He noted that through the MORE Agenda, Delta is investing in capacity building, digital transformation and staff welfare, and wished delegates fruitful deliberations.

The three-day Council brings together the Chairman of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Prof. Tunji Olaopa, federal commissioners, and chairmen and members of civil service commissions from the 36 states and the FCT.

In a statement by Ibraheem Zakariyya, FCSC’s Head of Information and Public Relations, Olaopa thanked Oborevwori for his hospitality and for approving Delta as host of the meeting.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Delta State Civil Service Commission, Chief Roseline Amioku, said the event provides an opportunity for decision-makers to share ideas and deliberate on how to make the civil service more effective.
