Hundreds of young protesters have brought the ancient city of Kano to a standstill, marching through the streets and converging on the Government House to demand action from the government.
The protesters, mostly under the age of 20, gathered in various neighborhoods, including Gama, Tudun Wada, and Tudun Murtala, before proceeding to Hotoro, Maiduguri Road, and Ahmadu Bello Way.
Carrying placards with various inscriptions and with their bodies painted in different colors, the protesters called for urgent action from the government.
Some youths were seen carrying dangerous weapons, prompting a swift response from police officers who confiscated the weapons to maintain order.
Despite the heavy presence of armed police officers, NSCDC, and DSS operatives, the protesters continued their march towards the Government House.
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf appealed for calm, inviting protesters to present their grievances peacefully at the Government House. He has pledged to personally deliver their demands to the president.
The protesters were shouting “we need urgent actions from the government”, but their actions indicate a sense of urgency and frustration among the youth in Kano.
The situation remains tense, with security personnel working to maintain order and prevent further escalation.
