Following a day of unrest that claimed two lives and injured several others, Jigawa State police have apprehended 55 individuals in connection with widespread vandalism and looting.
A police spokesperson, DSP Lawan Shiisu Adam, reported that the arrests were made in response to the violent protest that erupted on Thursday.
During the disturbances, demonstrators targeted both private and government properties,causing significant damage.
Recovered items from the suspects include motorcycles, tricycles, bicycles, agricultural supplies, and other property.
The detained individuals are accused of a range of offenses, including trespassing, arson, and theft.
Among the affected locations were the Hadejia Local Government Secretariat, JASCO stores, the residence of a National Assembly member, the NITDA office, and the state headquarters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The police have vowed to prosecute all those arrested to the full extent of the law.
