The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has heightened its security posture across the country following escalating violence during ongoing nationwide protests.
The Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has ordered all commands to be on high alert.
In a statement released on Friday, NSCDC spokesperson CSC Babawale Afolabi said the decision came after days of peaceful protests turned chaotic in several states.
The agency expressed deep concern over attacks on security personnel and the destruction of public and private property.
The NSCDC chief has personally monitored the situation in Abuja and has condemned the actions of those involved in the violence.
He emphasized that warnings were issued to protesters to maintain peace but that some individuals have exploited the situation for criminal activities.
In Kano State, NSCDC operatives arrested 32 suspects accused of looting and vandalism during the protests. The agency is investigating the incident and will pursue legal action against those involved.
The NSCDC has reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property while urging protesters to remain peaceful and law-abiding.
