IED Explosion in Maiduguri: One Dead, Eleven Injured, Police Report

The Borno Police Command has reported that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) attack in Maiduguri resulted in the death of one male victim and left eleven others with varying degrees of injuries.

Police Commissioner Yusuf Lawal provided this update on Friday while briefing the News Agency of Nigeria.

He stated that the incident occurred during a protest against bad governance at Deribe Junction near Federal Government Girls’ College Monguno Annex in the Bulumkutu area of Maiduguri.

“The injured victims were taken to the State Specialist Hospital Maiduguri for treatment, while the deceased’s body was sent for an autopsy,” Lawal said.

Following the explosion, the police swiftly deployed personnel from the Explosive Ordnance Device unit, Base 13, who secured the area around a nearby filling station.

In a separate incident, Lawal reported a case of culpable homicide in Biu local government area.

According to the commissioner, Muhammad Wakshama reported that his son-in-law, Ibrahim Bulama, had a violent altercation with his wife, Maryam Ibrahim, striking her on the head with a stick.

Maryam was taken to the General Hospital Biu for treatment but was confirmed dead on Thursday.

The suspect, Bulama, was arrested, and an exhibit was recovered. An investigation is ongoing.

Commissioner Lawal noted that these incidents brought the total number of deaths in the state to seventeen in the past 48 hours, with many others injured.

“The Borno command assures citizens that investigations are ongoing and normality has been restored,” he concluded.
