The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has categorically denied approving any new telecom tariff plans or hikes, dismissing recent online reports as “FAKE NEWS”.
The Commission’s Executive Vice Chairman/CEO, Dr. Aminu Maida, clarified that the NCC is focused on simplifying existing tariff plans for greater transparency and fairness, without introducing new tariffs or hikes.
The NCC has flagged the misleading post on its X page and emphasized that no such tariff plans or pricing updates have been approved.
The misleading post claimed that the Commission had introduced new tariff plans and pricing rules for the telecom industry, supposedly outlined in the document titled “Guidance on the Simplification of Tariffs in the Nigerian Communications Sector,” and signed by Dr. Aminu Maida, the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO.
The Commission is committed to ensuring the stability of telecom tariffs, despite rising costs and forex instability, and is promoting local content involvement to maintain and improve the quality of telecom services.
The NCC has also highlighted the achievements of the Nigeria Office for Development of Indigenous Telecoms Sector (NODITS), established in July 2021, which has made significant strides in manufacturing, human capacity, R&D, and software development.
The Commission remains committed to promoting indigenous content and reducing dependence on imports to avoid potential tariff increases.
