The Kano State Police Command arrested a notorious armed robber, Hassan Iliya, and recovered two AK-47 rifles, 47 rounds of live ammunition, and nearly ₦5 million in cash.
The arrest followed a violent robbery in Yandadi Village, Kunchi Local Government Area, where a gang had stolen ₦15 million.
According to SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, Iliya, a 35-year-old from Alhazawa Village, Katsina State, was apprehended while attempting to flee on a motorcycle.
The police’s prompt response, led by an intelligence-driven patrol, resulted in the seizure of the stolen funds and weapons.
The robbery occurred around 2:00 AM on August 5th, with the assailants assaulting the victim and fleeing with the money.
The police swiftly arrested Iliya just hours after the crime was reported.
State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba, praised the officers for their efficiency and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
Despite ongoing nationwide protests, CP Garba assured that the police remain dedicated to ensuring public safety.
The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to apprehend any accomplices.
The suspect is expected to face charges in court once the investigation concludes.
Residents of Yandadi Village have expressed relief and appreciation for the police’s swift action.
