CAF 69: African Tourism Leaders Pledge to Strengthen Human Capital for Continental Growth
In a bid to position tourism as a driver of economic growth, the Honourable Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and Creative Economy, _Barr. Hannatu Musa Musawa_, joined other Tourism Ministers, Senior Officials and Industry Stakeholders at the _69th Meeting of the UN Tourism Regional Commission for Africa (CAF)_ to reaffirm their commitment to strengthening human capital to boost Africa’s tourism growth and chart a way forward.
The meeting recently took place in _Victoria, Mahé, Republic of Seychelles_, hosted by the Government of Seychelles in collaboration with UN Tourism.
It ran alongside a Thematic Conference on _“Strengthening Human Capital to Boost Africa’s Tourism Growth”_ focused on building a skilled and competitive tourism workforce across the continent.
According to a statement by FMACTCE’s Head of Press and Public Relations, Amadi Uloma, this marked the first CAF meeting convened under the new _UN Tourism Secretary-General, Shaikha Al Nuwais_, who assumed office in January 2026.
In the absence of Zambia, the Chair, _Nigeria in its capacity as 1st Vice-Chair presided over the proceedings_, in line with the precedent set at the 68th meeting in Abuja.
The gathering brought together tourism ministers, senior officials, and industry stakeholders from across Africa to advance the region’s shared tourism agenda. Discussions focused on _capacity-building, connectivity, visa facilitation, digital infrastructure, and leveraging tourism for inclusive economic growth_.
The meeting also drew momentum from the _Golden Jubilee celebrations marking Seychelles’ 50th anniversary of independence_, held days earlier.
