TCN Completes Live-Line Maintenance On Zaria–Funtua 132kV Line Without Outage
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Kaduna Region, has successfully completed live-line maintenance on the Zaria–Funtua 132kV Transmission Line without disrupting bulk power transmission.
The exercise was carried out by TCN’s Live-Line Team from *Saturday, July 4 to Tuesday, July 7, 2026*. It involved the replacement of damaged glass disc insulators on selected transmission towers with hybrid polymer and glass disc insulators to restore the integrity and reliability of the insulation strings.
The Company’s General Manager, (Public Affairs), Ndidi Mbah, in a statement disclosed that the affected towers were T14, T17, T40, T63, T78, T175, T177 and T178. Each had at least five damaged glass disc insulators.
The maintenance was executed under energized, live-line conditions. This eliminated the need for a planned outage and ensured uninterrupted bulk electricity transmission throughout the period.
The successful completion of the exercise underscores TCN’s commitment to maintaining a safe, reliable and efficient transmission network through the deployment of modern live-line maintenance techniques.
