Rivers Police Warn of Violent Hijacking of Protest

The Rivers State Police have issued a new warning, stating that the ongoing protest in the state has been overtaken by hoodlums engaging in criminal activities.

In a statement released on Wednesday morning, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, the Rivers Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), reported that the protest had been hijacked, leading to violent behavior.

According to the police, these individuals have been harassing law-abiding residents, disrupting traffic, attaching leaflets to vehicles, setting up canopies on major roads, vandalizing billboards, threatening businesses, and burning tires.

The police have condemned these actions as contrary to peaceful protest principles. They have urged protesters to limit their activities to designated areas such as Abali Park and Pleasure Park.

Any breach of peace or unlawful conduct will be met with strict enforcement, including arrests and prosecutions.

The police have also called on parents and guardians to manage their children and wards to prevent further escalation.

The statement emphasized that the Rivers State Police Command will take decisive measures to maintain order and ensure the safety of all residents.
