Gunmen on Friday morning attacked a police checkpoint at Nnewi-Oba Road, Idemili South Local Government Area, Anambra State.
The attack led to the death of an officer and another was injured.
The incident happened when assailants launched explosive devices at officers stationed at Omata Junction.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the state Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the attack, noting that the Commissioner of Police, Nnaghe Itam, has initiated a thorough manhunt for the perpetrators.
Ikenga also mentioned that the operation, led by the Assistant Commissioner overseeing Nnewi Area Command, is working with residents to locate the attackers.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has ordered a manhunt operation for the gunmen who attacked the police team at about 9:20 am today, 9/8/2024.
“The police team has secured the area, and further details will be communicated,” Ikenga stated.
