Flooding in several communities within the Talata Mafara local government area of Zamfara State has left more than 2,000 households homeless.
Reports indicate that the flood has caused significant damage, destroying properties and livestock valued in the millions.
The affected areas include Ruwan Gora, Morai, Makera, and Talata Mafara town.
Officials from the Zamfara State Emergency Management Agency (ZEMA) have confirmed the situation and conducted visits to the impacted areas.
Ahmed Bala Gusau, the Executive Secretary of ZEMA, described the incident as highly unfortunate during an assessment tour.
Mr. Hassan Usman Dauran, Director of Disaster Management and Control at ZEMA, conveyed the state government’s commitment to addressing the needs of the victims.
The Sole Administrator of Talata Mafara local government, Usman Jafar, also extended his sympathies to those affected and advised them to avoid blocking waterways.
