The National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission (NSIWC) has completed calculating the updated minimum wage for junior federal employees.
Calculations for senior staff are expected to be finalized within the next two to three weeks.
Both sets of data will then be submitted to the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) for further processing and implementation.
The NSIWC is awaiting the conclusion of discussions between the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) with the federal government.
These negotiations are aimed at ensuring that the new minimum wage, which includes a consequential adjustment, aligns workers’ salaries appropriately.
Junior employees, classified as those on grade levels one to five, will see their monthly salaries increase from N30,000 to N70,000. Senior staff, on grade level six and above, will also experience changes, pending the final adjustments from ongoing negotiations.
The computations are intended to facilitate a smooth transition to the new wage structure, providing much-needed relief to junior staff.
Once negotiations are complete, the revised salary scales for senior employees will be calculated and submitted to the NSIWC for review.
An official from the OAGF confirmed their readiness to receive the updated wage details, which are essential for determining the federal government’s total wage bill under the new structure.
This updated bill will reflect an increase from the previous estimate of N265 billion, which covered salaries for all federal personnel.
