Ogun INEC REC Passes Away in Abuja

The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ogun State, Niyi Ijalaye, has passed away.

Ijalaye reportedly collapsed and died on Monday evening after attending a meeting of RECs at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

According to reports Ijalaye, who hailed from Ondo State, had returned to his hotel room after the meeting when the tragic incident occurred.

Sources revealed that Ijalaye, dressed in a blue-striped kaftan and a red cap, was actively involved in all the discussions during the meeting.

The session, led by INEC Chairman Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, primarily focused on the upcoming off-cycle governorship elections in Edo and Ondo states, along with discussions about seven vacant positions in the National and State Assemblies.

Ijalaye was appointed as the REC for Ogun State in March 2022, succeeding Olusegun Agbaje, who was transferred to Lagos State.

As of now, the Commission has not released an official statement confirming his death.
