The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has addressed recent allegations made by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) accusing its National President, Joe Ajaero, of involvement in terrorism financing, treasonable felony, and other related offenses.
On Monday, the NPF extended an invitation to Ajaero for questioning regarding these allegations, which also included cybercrime.
The invitation, detailed in a letter dated August 19, 2024, and signed by ACP Adamu Muazu on behalf of the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Intelligence Response Team, stated that a warrant of arrest would be issued if Ajaero did not appear for questioning on Tuesday.
In response, NLC spokesperson Benson Upah denied the allegations, questioning how the congress, which struggles with financial constraints, could be involved in such activities.
“We don’t even have enough funds for our basic needs; how could we be financing terrorism?” Upah remarked. “We are committed to safeguarding our nation’s sovereignty, dignity, and safety.”
Regarding the police invitation, Upah affirmed, “As law-abiding citizens, we will respond appropriately to any official requests.”
