Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has criticized President Bola Tinubu for acquiring a private jet and a bulletproof vehicle within his first year in office, while failing to address widespread suffering among Nigerians.
Sowore, expressing his discontent through a series of posts on his X page, accused Nigerian leaders of prioritizing personal luxuries over the welfare of citizens.
He remarked, “Bola Ahmed Tinubu claimed that one year isn’t sufficient for Nigerians to see improvements, yet in that time, he has acquired a yacht, a jet, a bulletproof Escalade, and even a mansion for the Vice President. #RevolutionNow.”
Sowore also highlighted the recent launch of Tinubu’s $150 million presidential jet, criticizing the acquisition as indicative of leaders’ self-serving tendencies rather than genuine concern for public issues.
This criticism coincides with a legal dispute between the Nigerian government and Chinese company Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Co. Limited.
The conflict, which began with the revocation of the company’s contract by the Ogun State Government in 2016, led to a French court ordering the seizure of Nigerian government aircraft, including a Dassault Falcon 7X, an Airbus A330-243, and a Boeing 737-7N6/BBJ. While one jet has been returned, the dispute has intensified public dissatisfaction.
The situation has fueled protests under the hashtag #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria, with demonstrators calling for improvements in the nation’s economic conditions and governance.
