The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has warned of a nationwide work stoppage if the Nigeria Police arrests or detains its President, Joe Ajaero.
The threat was issued Tuesday morning at the NLC headquarters following an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting.
The meeting was convened to address the police’s invitation to Ajaero regarding allegations of terrorism financing.
The NEC agreed that Ajaero should comply with the police invitation but decided to request additional time for his appearance through their legal adviser.
NLC Deputy President Ado Kabiru Sani urged workers across the country to be prepared for further instructions if the police proceed with detaining Ajaero.
He stated, “We are committed to honoring the police invitation and are working with our lawyer for an extension. However, if the President is arrested, workers will immediately down tools. We will provide further directives based on our leadership’s decisions.”
