A 38-year-old nurse, Amarachukwu Happiness Nzekwe, from Ezinifitte in Aguata Local Government Area, has admitted to using a hot pressing iron to burn her househelp, stating that it was a form of discipline.
Nzekwe explained that she took this drastic measure after accusing the househelp, who is her 13-year-old nephew, of stealing money.
According to her, after the boy refused to confess to the theft, she heated a pressing iron on a stove and used it to burn his back.
During her confession to officials from the Anambra State Ministry of Women’s Affairs and Social Welfare, led by Commissioner Ify Obinabo, Nzekwe defended her actions, stating, “I’ve been enduring a lot because of this boy. I recently had surgery, and when I returned home, I found money missing. I didn’t use electricity to heat the iron; I placed it on the stove to discipline him.”
It was also reported that Nzekwe often locked the boy up at home without food.
Commissioner Obinabo condemned the act and confirmed that Nzekwe would face prosecution, affirming that such behavior would not be tolerated in Anambra State.
Following the confession, Nzekwe was handed over to the police for further investigation and legal action.
