NDLEA Seizes 60 Bags of Ghanaian ‘Loud’ and Other Drugs in Lagos

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted 60 jumbo bags of Ghanaian Loud, a potent type of cannabis, weighing 2,400 kg in Lagos.

The NDLEA Chairman, Buba Marwa, revealed this during a ceremony in Abuja where eight officers from the Marine Command were decorated with new ranks and received commendation letters.

The officers—Dick Aaron Dick, Alabi Mayowa, Gabriel Ubokikwan, Aso Daniel John, Abdul Emmanuel Sule, Ngabolo Victor Sonpano, and Jonah Emmanuel Sule—were recognized for their courage and professionalism during the operation.

Marwa praised the officers for their outstanding efforts, noting that this success underscores the agency’s ongoing commitment to tackling drug trafficking.

He highlighted that their special promotions and commendations were a reflection of their resilience and dedication in the face of challenges encountered during the mission to stop illicit drugs from entering Nigeria via the Lagos waterways.

Describing the operation, Marwa mentioned that the Special Marine Squad acted on reliable intelligence at 3 a.m. on August 23. They quickly mobilized and intercepted a boat near Alfa Beach in Lekki, Lagos. Another boat was also spotted during the operation.

“Despite some hostile encounters while intercepting the second boat, our officers remained focused and managed to seize the exhibits without losing composure,” Marwa said.

“They successfully confiscated 60 bags of Ghanaian Loud, weighing 2,400 kg, and arrested a suspect from Ghana. The boat, which was powered by three outboard engines, was also impounded.”

Marwa acknowledged the agency’s efforts to strengthen the Marine Command with better equipment and training, noting support from the UK Home Office International Operations.

He emphasized that the operation’s success highlights the agency’s commitment to collaborating with other security agencies and stakeholders in the fight against drug trafficking.

Marwa encouraged the officers to maintain their dedication, uphold the integrity of their work, and be vigilant both on and off duty.

He also stressed the importance of adhering to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to achieve successful outcomes without compromise or casualties.
