Eniola Bolaji Secures Nigeria’s First Paralympic Medal

Eniola Bolaji has made history by becoming the first African athlete to win a medal in Para-Badminton at the ongoing Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Bolaji secured a bronze medal for Nigeria in the Women’s Singles SL3 category, defeating Ukraine’s Kozyna Oksana with a commanding score of 21-9, 21-9.

Following her victory, the Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Owan Enoh, congratulated Bolaji, praising her remarkable achievement. Her bronze medal came after a challenging semi-final match on Sunday.

In his message to all Nigerian athletes competing at the Paralympics, Senator Enoh encouraged them to strive for victory: “You all can do it for yourselves and for the country. As a ministry, we have provided what you need, so make all the sports-loving people of Nigeria proud of you.

Fly the nation’s flag very high in Paris. I believe in your capacity. Having done all we should as a government, we are rooting for you. It is now over to you to put smiles on the faces of Nigerians.”

This bronze medal marks the first medal for Team Nigeria in the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

As the Paralympic Games continue, Nigerian athletes Bolawa Akingbemisiu, Kayode Alabi, and Isau Ogunkule are set to compete in the Round of 16 table tennis matches later today.
