Military Denies Reports of Terrorists Abducting 150 People in Sokoto

The Military High Command has refuted claims that 150 people were abducted by terrorists in Gobir, Sokoto State.

In a statement signed by the Director of Defence Media Operations, Major General Edward Buba, the military clarified that the mass killing and burial depicted in a trending video occurred in a neighboring African country, not in Nigeria.

General Buba explained that on August 29, 2024, around 5 pm, troops from OPERATION HADARIN DAJI, stationed at Forward Operating Base Zurmi in Zamfara State, conducted a fighting patrol to dismantle a terrorist gathering in Kwashabawa Village.

During the operation, two Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles (MRAPs) became immobilized due to the swampy terrain caused by heavy rains.

The troops dismounted and disabled the MRAPs after unsuccessful attempts to recover them, ensuring that the vehicles would not fall into the hands of terrorists.

General Buba urged Nigerians to be cautious of terrorist propaganda, emphasizing that the spread of misinformation, disinformation, and fake news is a tactic used by these groups to further their agenda.
