UK announces partial suspension on Arms Exports to Isreal over Humanitarian Concerns

The United Kingdom has announced a partial suspension of arms exports to Israel, citing a “clear risk” of serious breaches of international humanitarian law.

Foreign Secretary David Lammy revealed that 30 out of 350 licences will be suspended, covering items that could be used in the current conflict in Gaza, including components for military aircraft.

The Foreign Secretary told parliament on Monday the partial ban covered items “which could be used in the current conflict in Gaza” against Hamas but did not include parts for the F-35 fighter jets.

Lammy emphasized that the decision reflects the UK’s commitment to upholding international law and preventing potential war crimes, while maintaining support for Israel’s right to self-defense.

International Affairs professor Hassan Barari praised the UK’s decision as a crucial reminder to the international community to take action against Israel’s unchecked aggression in Gaza.
