FG, PROPCOM+ join forces to transform Nigeria’s agricultural sector, boost economic growth
The Federal Government has taken a major step towards transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector and stimulating economic growth by announcing a strategic partnership with Propcom+, a UK Aid-funded program.
This collaboration aims to boost agricultural productivity and enhance livelihoods, marking a significant milestone in the country’s economic development.
This initiative gained momentum when Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, received in his office in Abuja today, a delegation from Propcom+, the UK Aid-funded programme, which is focused on climate-resilient and market-led agricultural development.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering inclusive economic growth through targeted agricultural investments.
The Minister noted that efforts are being coordinated in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, the African Development Bank, and other stakeholders to expand access to subsidised inputs and finance for smallholder farmers across wet and dry seasons.
He emphasized the need for efficiency and transparency, highlighting the use of biometric systems for direct benefit transfers to vulnerable groups and initiatives linking farmers to profitable markets so as to ensure that interventions yield tangible benefits for communities nationwide.
The Propcom+ team, led by its Political Director, Adiya Ode, expressed enthusiasm for supporting the country’s reform initiatives, focusing on boosting agricultural productivity and improving livelihoods in areas impacted by conflict and climate change.
This partnership marks a crucial milestone in Nigeria’s quest for sustainable agricultural development and economic growth and is expected to have a lasting impact on the lives of millions of Nigerians.
