BREAKING: Court acquits Fayose of money laundering charges
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State on Wednesday, discharged and acquitted former Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, of all charges in the long-standing money laundering case brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The judgement, which was delivered by Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke, held that the witnesses and documents evidence tendered before the court by the anti-graft agency were not enough to prove the defendant guilty
The EFCC alleged that he misappropriated funds amounting to hundreds of millions of naira—charges that attracted national attention and dominated political discourse for years.
It would be recalled that Fayose, who was accused of laundering public funds during his tenure as governor, had consistently denied the allegations.
