The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the death of a 20-year-old female staff member and injuries to 13 others following a gas explosion at a fast food restaurant in the Ajah area of Lagos.

The tragic incident occurred around 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, at No. 5 Spring Garden Estate, Orchid Road, Ajah. According to police sources, the explosion was triggered by a suspected gas leak, which ignited a massive fire that engulfed the restaurant, owned by Uchechukwu Godwill Villason.

Speaking on the incident, a police officer from the Lagos State Command stated: “Thirteen staff members suffered varying degrees of burns and were immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Gbagada for urgent medical attention.”

Sadly, one of the victims, identified as Kingsley Promise, a 20-year-old woman from Akwa Ibom State, succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment.
