Man seeking FG appointment duped of ₦300m

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a man, Adeola Badru, for allegedly defrauding a federal political appointment seeker of ₦300 million.

Badru is accused of criminal breach of trust, forgery, and obtaining money under false pretence.

In 2023, he reportedly approached his victim, Joseph Olugbenga, posing as a seasoned politician with direct access to top political figures.
Badru allegedly promised to secure Olugbenga a seat on the board of the South West Development Commission for a fee of ₦300 million.

Convinced by Badru’s claims, Olugbenga reportedly paid the sum in tranches. After receiving the payments, the suspect fled to Ibadan, Oyo State, and blocked all communication channels.

When Olugbenga realised he had been duped, he petitioned the Kwara State Police Command in February 2023.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Adekimi Ojo, on Thursday, confirmed the arrest at a press briefing in Ilorin.

“The Criminal Investigation Department swung into action and traced the suspect to his hideout in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he was arrested. During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily admitted to the crime,” Ojo said.

“The command is carrying out further investigation, and at the conclusion of our findings, the suspect will be duly charged to court.”
According to the CP, forged documents and other incriminating items were recovered from the suspect.
