RAIN OR SHINE: GOVERNOR ENO’S SURPRISE TOUR PUTS KEY PROJECTS ON FAST TRACK, APPLAUDS WOMEN CONTRACTORS*

Demonstrating hands-on leadership and an uncompromising stance on delivery, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, on Monday, April 14, carried out an unannounced, rain-defying inspection of strategic projects across the state. The tour reinforced two clear directives from the Governor: timely completion of all projects without excuses, and greater inclusion of proven, high-performing contractors.

The Governor began his inspection at the Aviation Village, a 15-hectare estate designed to house aviation agency staff ahead of the commencement of international flight operations at the Victor Attah International Airport. He assessed completed two- and three-bedroom housing units, the dual-carriage access road, internal road network, perimeter fencing, and a model primary school within the estate. Governor Eno expressed confidence in the project’s delivery timeline, noting that the 100 housing units are critical to the state’s aviation expansion plans.

While at the Aviation Village, the Governor singled out female contractors handling key components of the project, praising their professionalism, speed, and quality of work. He immediately directed relevant Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to prioritize such high-performing firms for future government contracts, stressing that capacity and track record — not sentiment — would guide awards.

The tour continued at the Equipment Leasing and Maintenance Plant, a strategic facility for mechanized agriculture in the state. The plant comprises 20 tractor sheds, administrative buildings, a fully equipped maintenance workshop, 25 tractors with attachable implements, and two low-bed transport vehicles. The facility is positioned to reduce the cost of farm mechanization and significantly boost food production across Akwa Ibom.

Governor Eno also inspected the designated site for the CNG Mass Transit Bus Terminal. The planned multimodal hub will feature a CNG gas filling station, training academy, maintenance workshops, restaurants, a police post, and an automated car wash. The project represents a deliberate step by the administration toward cleaner, safer, and more efficient public transportation in the state.

Undeterred by heavy rains, the Governor concluded his tour at the Dakkada Luxury Estate, where the State Assembly Quarters and Executive Council Quarters are currently under construction. His presence at each site underscored a personal commitment to real-time project monitoring, quality assurance, and accountability.

Speaking on the Governor’s inspection tour, the Commissioner for Information, Comrade Aniekan Umanah, stated: *His Excellency’s unannounced visit today is a clear demonstration of this administration’s resolve to match words with action. The Governor is personally tracking these projects because they are tied directly to jobs, economic growth, and the welfare of Akwa Ibom people. The message is* *unambiguous: timelines are non-negotiable, and excellence will be rewarded.*

The unscheduled tour signals a new tempo in project supervision across the state. By linking each infrastructure project to broader economic outcomes — from international aviation readiness to mechanized agriculture and clean energy transport — the administration is converting policy into visible, people-impacting development delivered on the ground, in real time, and to standard.
