FG, Katsina Govt Launch 18 Ambulances, 238 Tricycle Ambulances, Commission General Hospital Charanchi
The Federal Government and Katsina State Government have bolstered emergency healthcare delivery in the state with the launch of 15 Advanced Life Support Ambulances, 238 tricycle ambulances and the commissioning of General Hospital, Charanchi.
The Federal Government also donated three additional ambulances to the state, bringing the total fleet to 18.
The interventions were unveiled on Tuesday in Charanchi by the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, and Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Pate said the State Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System (SEMSAS) will provide residents with a dependable system for emergency response, access to appropriate health facilities and timely treatment.
He noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and the Nigeria Health Sector Renewal Investment Initiative (NHSRII), which brings together the Federal Government, states, the FCT and development partners to strengthen the nation’s health system.
In his remarks, Governor Radda described the launch as a major milestone in his administration’s commitment to saving lives and ensuring prompt access to emergency care.
He explained that the 15 Advanced Life Support Ambulances will provide specialized emergency care and patient stabilization during transit, while the 238 tricycle ambulances will ensure emergency transportation for residents in rural and hard-to-reach communities.
According to the Governor, General Hospital, Charanchi is the fourth of six secondary health facilities being established by his administration, adding that the General Hospitals in Funtua and Mai’adua are at advanced stages and will be commissioned before the end of 2026.
He said the Charanchi General Hospital was upgraded at a cost of N2.059 billion and has been equipped to provide diagnostic, medical, surgical, maternity, emergency and other essential services to residents of Charanchi*Ado Bako*

Governor Radda added that over 280 Comprehensive and Primary Healthcare Centres have been renovated and revitalised across the state, while 804 healthcare workers have been recruited in the last three years. He also said the government has commenced postgraduate medical residency training in six departments and embarked on solarisation of hospitals to guarantee 24-hour electricity supply.
Earlier, the Executive Secretary of KATSEMSAS, Dr. Adamu Aminu Adamu, said the agency will strengthen emergency response across the state through ambulance coordination, rapid response, patient transportation and improved referral linkages.
Dr. Adamu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to reducing preventable deaths and improving health indices, stressing that no pregnant woman in labour or resident of the state should be denied timely emergency care due to distance or delay.
