Akume to Appointees: Communicate Govt Achievements to Nigerians
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Sen. George Akume, has charged Ministers, Special Advisers and Heads of Federal Government Agencies to intensify efforts in communicating the achievements of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to Nigerians.
Akume gave the charge on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, in Abuja, while addressing participants at the Federal Appointees Strategic Summit, which he described as a platform for taking stock of the administration’s achievements and assessing their impact on ordinary Nigerians.
According to him, the Summit is strategic as it brings together Ministers, Special Advisers, Chairmen and Chief Executive Officers of Agencies to reflect on what has been achieved and how such achievements can translate into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens.
“This is a strategic Summit of top political appointees of government. We are referring to Ministers, Special Advisers, Chairmen and CEOs of Agencies,” the SGF said, noting that the broad representation was necessary given the extensive responsibilities of government agencies.
Sen. Akume stated that the Summit provides an opportunity to examine the scorecard of the administration and evaluate the extent to which government interventions have positively impacted Nigerians.
He therefore urged Ministers and heads of agencies to take responsibility for communicating the programmes, policies and achievements of their respective institutions in a clear and accessible manner.
He clarified that the Summit was not intended to evaluate or judge individual Ministers or Agencies, but to identify achievements across MDAs and determine how they can be translated into improved outcomes for citizens.
“We are not evaluating. What we are doing is taking stock of what has been achieved by each Ministry and every Agency, and how we are able to influence the lives of the ordinary people,” he stated.
Akume urged participants to be open and constructive during the sessions and to freely share their experiences, challenges and perspectives on programme implementation.
In his remarks, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dr. Henry Alake, said the engagement provides an opportunity for every Ministry, Agency, Board and Federal establishment to present its achievements and demonstrate its contributions to the Tinubu administration.
He urged participants to see the exercise as a presentation of the collective scorecard of all appointees entrusted with responsibilities by the President.
Dr. Alake noted that the administration has recorded significant and unprecedented strides since inception, stressing that the achievements are based on tangible facts and should not be dismissed as mere rhetoric. He added that the time has come to communicate these accomplishments more effectively to Nigerians.
Also speaking, the Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Abubakar Bagudu, explained that President Tinubu’s decision to contest the 2023 presidential election was informed by a determination to address longstanding national challenges and to take difficult but necessary decisions in the national interest.
He disclosed that the Renewed Hope Agenda is not merely a campaign slogan but the product of careful consideration of Nigeria’s circumstances and the choices required to move the country forward.Sen. Bagudu commended the SGF for convening the Summit, describing it as an important platform for appointees to collectively review and communicate the achievements of the administration.
The Federal Appointees Strategic Summit brings together key officials of the Federal Government to deliberate on programmes, achievements, challenges and strategies for strengthening the implementation and communication of the administration’s agenda.
