TCN, AfDB Host Validation Workshop on Battery Energy Storage System to Stabilise Grid
The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, in partnership with the African Development Bank, AfDB, today comnenced a two-day Validation Workshop for the Battery Energy Storage System, BESS, Feasibility Study in Abuja. The programme runs from Monday, 8 to Tuesday, 9 June 2026.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of TCN, Engr. (Dr.) Sule Abdulaziz, appealed to stakeholders to actively contribute to the discussions to reflect Nigeria’s power sector realities.
Engr. Abdulaziz, who was represented by the General Manager, Engineering, Engr. Mojeed Akintola, commended the initiative and described it as timely as Nigeria continues to pursue greater stability in electricity supply.
According to him, the BESS project is a forward-looking measure by TCN in collaboration with AfDB to address system instability and enhance grid balancing in the country.
In his remarks, Prof. Tajudeen Humble Sikiru, the Lead Consultant for the project from the African Development Bank, AfDB, urged participants to carefully consider every detail in the policy documents. He emphasized the critical importance of validating the report and noted that the future of Nigeria’s electricity sector depends on the outcomes of the workshop.
