VANDALISM CAUSES COLLAPSE OF 330kV TOWER IN DELTA, CLAIMS ONE LIFE
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that vandalism led to the collapse of Tower 101 on the Ughelli–Benin 330kV Transmission Line in Delta State, resulting in the death of one person.
The incident was discovered on Friday, 8th August, 2026, during a routine patrol by TCN’s Delta Sub-Region, Lines Maintenance Department (LMD), following an earth fault on the line.
At the site, the patrol team found Tower 101 completely collapsed. The body of an individual suspected to be involved in the vandalism was recovered from the wreckage.
Further checks revealed that Tower 101 on the adjacent Ughelli–Sapele 330kV line had also been seriously vandalised and is at risk of collapse.
“Vandalism of power infrastructure is dangerous and destructive. It damages national assets, disrupts electricity supply, and now it has cost a life,” TCN said.
The Company condemned the act and called on host communities and the general public to protect power installations and report any suspicious activities around transmission towers and substations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
TCN stressed that protecting electricity infrastructure is a civic responsibility critical to sustaining power supply nationwide.
