NWDC Mulls Infrastructure Support for Navy Logistics College as NBTE Approves ND Programmes for 2027
Commission says partnership will expand skills, opportunities for Northwest youth
The North-West Development Commission, NWDC, says it is considering infrastructure support for the Nigerian Navy Logistics College, Dawakin Tofa, following the College’s approval by NBTE to commence National Diploma programmes in early 2027.
The assurance was given on Thursday, August 27, 2026, when the Managing Director/Chief Executive of NWDC, Professor Shehu Ma’aji, received a delegation from the College led by the Commandant, Commodore Abubakar Madawaki, in Kano.
Prof. Ma’aji stated that the partnership aligns with NWDC’s mandate to strengthen institutions and build human capital across Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara States.
“The establishment of the Navy Logistics College in Dawakin Tofa is a strategic asset for the Northwest. As NWDC, we are interested in any collaboration that will expand access to skills and create opportunities for our youth,” the MD/CEO said.
Commodore Abubakar Madawaki told NWDC management that the College, which relocated to Kano in 2021, has received NBTE accreditation and plans to begin admitting students for ND programmes next year.
He identified infrastructure as the major challenge to a smooth take-off.
“The major reason we are here is to inform you of the existence of this college. We have received NBTE accreditation to run National Diploma programmes. The major challenge is infrastructure,” he stated.
The Commandant added that the programmes will benefit citizens of Kano and the entire Northwest region, and that the College will host the Nigerian Navy Logistics Seminar next month.
The MD/CEO assured the delegation that NWDC would review the areas of possible intervention to enable the College to fully commence its ND programmes.
In a statement issued by NWDC’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Abdulrashid Safana, both parties agreed to set up further engagements to explore concrete areas of partnership.
