NWDC Boss Receives Medical Students, Pledges Support for Regional Convention
The Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the North-West Development Commission (NWDC), Prof. Shehu Ma’aji, has pledged institutional support for the North-West Regional Convention of Medical Students scheduled to hold in Kano.
This is contained in a statement issued by the Commission’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Abdulrashid Safana.
Prof. Ma’aji gave the assurance on Tuesday, September 22 when he received the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) of the Convention on a courtesy visit to the Commission’s headquarters.
The delegation, led by the Chairman of the LOC, Khalifa Dahiru, informed the MD/CEO that North-West University, Kano, has been granted the hosting rights for this year’s edition.
He added that the four-day convention, which will bring together medical students from across the North-West and the wider Northern region, is scheduled to commence on Wednesday, September 24, with a public lecture, and run through to Saturday, September 27, 2026.
Speaking on behalf of the committee, the Vice Chairman of the Nigeria Medical Students Association (NiMSA) Northern Caucus, Bilal Bello, said the visit was to formally intimate the Commission of the convention and seek institutional support, particularly in logistics and welfare of delegates.
He also extended a formal invitation to the MD/CEO to grace the opening public lecture and expressed confidence that the Commission would support the students in line with its mandate on human capital development.
In his response, Prof. Ma’aji commended the students for their initiative and organizational efforts, noting that while the timing of the request leaves little room for elaborate consideration, Management will review their submission with dispatch and extend possible support within available provisions.
He emphasized the need for hospitality and excellence in hosting, noting that Kano must continue to demonstrate its capacity to host national and regional gatherings.
“Kano is known for its hospitality. Those who come must leave with a good impression. We encourage you to ensure your colleagues from other universities enjoy their stay, participate fully, and return safely to their destinations,” he said.
“The Commission is committed to youth and human capital development. Medical students are central to the future of our healthcare system. We will look into your request and see what we can do within the shortest possible time to support a successful convention,” Prof. Ma’aji added.
