At independence anniversary visit, Akpabio pledges NASS support for Tinubu’s reforms
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has said the National Assembly will continue to support President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms.
Akpabio stated this on Friday in Lagos when he led a delegation of federal lawmakers to visit the President as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 66th independence anniversary, according to a statement by EmemMaria Ntedodom, Deputy Director and Head of Information, Press and Public Relations in the Office of the Senate President.
Speaking after the visit, Akpabio said the legislature would remain a worthy partner to the executive in the interest of Nigerians.
“On the part of the National Assembly, we want to continue to remain worthy partners to the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and we believe that what we are doing is in the interest of all Nigerians,” he was quoted as saying.
The Senate President noted that while the relationship between the executive and legislature is anchored on separation of powers and checks and balances, the National Assembly would continue to work with an administration it believes is focused on changing the fortunes of the country.
“We will continue to do that. That’s our own contribution. We are elected for that and we partner with an administration which we believe is focused and which is determined to change the fortunes of Nigeria,” he added.
