2027: Akume leads North Central grassroots drive for Tinubu
The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has rallied stakeholders across the North Central to intensify grassroots mobilisation for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Chris Ugwuegbulam, Head of Information & Public Relations, Office of the SGF.
According to the statement, Akume, who is Grand Patron of the North Central Grassroots Mobilization Network, spoke at a strategic meeting in Abuja with APC National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and other leaders of the network.
The SGF stated that the initiative was designed to take the campaign beyond Abuja into communities where elections are won, describing the network as a platform to mobilise votes for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.
He outlined three activities to drive the campaign: a North Central Grand Rally scheduled for October 10, 2026, in Lafia, Nasarawa State; a comprehensive medical outreach programme featuring free eye screening, prescription of glasses, cataract assessment and surgeries, as well as glaucoma and diabetic eye screening; and an advocacy tour and town hall meetings across the 19 senatorial districts in the six North Central states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Akume stated further that the programme, put together by the National Coordinator, Arch. Sonny Echono and his team, has the endorsement of the APC National Secretariat.
In his remarks, Prof. Yilwatda said stakeholders have resolved to mobilise bloc support for Tinubu and will set up a reconciliation committee to resolve internal grievances.
Echono said the drive would unite the North Central as a cohesive bloc ahead of 2027, while Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed, assured of media support.
Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, who chairs the North Central Governors Forum, commended Akume and Echono, noting that with six APC states and a supportive FCT administration, the zone is well positioned to deliver for the party.
