Power Outage Hits Keffi, Akwanga As Three Transmission Towers Collapse

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has said all 33kV outgoing feeders at its 132/33kV Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations are currently unavailable following the collapse of three towers along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga transmission corridor.

In a press statement on Wednesday, TCN said at about 4:06 p.m. on Tuesday, October 7, 2026, during heavy rain and wind, its 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line tripped on overcurrent protection.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that Towers T78, T79 and T80 had collapsed. The line was promptly isolated for safety reasons.

As a result, no load can be allocated to any of the 33kV feeders at the two substations for the time being.

TCN said its engineers are already on site assessing the extent of damage to determine materials and logistics needed for reconstruction and restoration.

The company apologised for the inconvenience the incident will cause electricity consumers in Keffi, Akwanga and environs, assuring that efforts are underway to complete repairs and restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible.

It said it will provide updates as restoration progresses.
