Hours before the anti-government demonstration was set to begin, the Lagos State Police Command reported that its bomb squad had neutralized an improvised explosive device.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident saying the device was found and defused in the Ikeja area.
Nigerian youth, frustrated by ongoing economic challenges, had planned a 10-day nationwide protest starting Thursday, August 1.
Security agencies had issued warnings, urging the organizers to reconsider their plans.
