Kano Governor Yusuf Expresses Frustration Over Police Non-Compliance

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has criticized the local police for not following his orders, expressing frustration over their lack of cooperation.

The Governor stated that police officers deployed in Kano are refusing to adhere to his directives, claiming they report to higher authorities instead.

“It’s troubling and unfortunate that, despite being the Executive Governor and Chief Security Officer, I am unable to give orders to the police. They consistently refuse to follow my instructions,” Yusuf said during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Africa House, Government House, Kano, on Wednesday.

Yusuf also warned of plans by some opposition politicians to exploit the upcoming nationwide protests to incite violence in Kano.

He claimed that these individuals intend to pose as members of the Kwankwasiyya movement to stage acts of arson and looting, making it appear as if the Governor’s supporters are responsible.

He called on young protesters to act peacefully and responsibly, offering to meet with them at the Government House to receive their grievances and forward them to the Federal Government.

“I will remain at the Government House to collect and deliver their demands to the Federal Government, provided they protest peacefully,” Yusuf assured.

In response, Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sunusi II advised caution, warning that the protests could be hijacked by criminals, potentially leading to violence and property damage.

He supported the Governor’s willingness to engage with protesters and direct their concerns to the relevant authorities.
