The Kwara State government has received official license from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to establish the Kwara State University of Education in Ilorin.
Deputy Governor Kayode Afolabi accepted the license on behalf of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
Acting Executive Secretary of the NUC, Chris Maiyaki, highlighted that with this new addition, Nigeria now boasts 274 universities, including 64 state-owned and 148 private institutions.
The recognition followed the submission of three key documents: the law establishing the university, an academic brief, and a physical master plan, all approved by the Kwara State House of Assembly.
Maiyaki emphasized the importance of sustainable funding for the new university and other state-owned institutions, pointing out that financial support is crucial for their longevity.
Governor AbdulRazaq expressed his commitment to enhancing the funding and quality of education at all levels in the state.
He noted that the university has significant infrastructure in place, having been upgraded from a College of Education to its new status.
